Do you want reduce unsolicited calls, emails, and mailings?

It’s hard to believe, but did you know that most credit reporting agencies actually sell your credit activities? For example, if you apply for a car loan, local car dealers may have agreements with consumer reporting companies to be notified when anyone in your area applies. The car dealers can then quickly reach out to sell you a car instead of the dealership you’re working with. They can also put you in their database to start marketing to you when it is likely you'll be in the market for another car. It isn't just car dealers either - it’s all kinds of businesses!

The good news is that you can reduce the number of unsolicited mailings, calls, and emails you receive with just a few simple steps:

Consumer Reporting Companies: If you decide that you don't want to receive prescreened offers of credit and insurance, you have two choices: You can opt out of receiving them for five years or opt out of receiving them permanently. Visit  www.optoutprescreen.com to get started.

Telemarketing: The federal government's National Do Not Call Registry is a free, easy way to reduce the telemarketing calls you get at home. To register your phone number or to get information about the registry, visit  www.donotcall.gov, or call 1-888-382-1222 from the phone number you want to register.

Mail and Email: You can register at the Direct Marketing Association's (DMA) consumer website at  www.DMAchoice.org. DMAchoice offers a simple, step-by-step process that enables you to decide what mail is and is not wanted.
